The discovery of a sport that has become an icon and the desire to do it together
This was the Webranking Curling Experience: an event - truly unique and surprising - made of collaboration, curiosity, challenge, and fun.
The culture at Webranking always carries a natural drive towards research, driven by curiosity about everything interesting that exists and that you want to experience more closely to understand it, evaluate it, and form an opinion.
This also applies to the moments when we think of organizing a meeting with our clients, designed to be together and spend a few hours away from daily work dynamics.
“Curling is not just a sport. It has become a cultural phenomenon, one of the most unexpected and engaging surprises of the last two Winter Olympic editions - says Nereo Sciutto, CEO of Webranking - In our choice to dedicate an afternoon to Curling, there is a lot of what we are: the desire to innovate, the pleasure of discovery, and what drives you to explore new territories that we think are interesting. The challenger spirit we feel as ours and the desire to amaze, taking paths that are not always and only the hype of the moment or the ones others take. Here, the essence of all this is the willingness to open new paths, refusing to follow those of others because “everyone does it that way.” A sort of push to go beyond that we feel is ours and that was well reflected in what we called Webranking Curling Experience”
It turned into an afternoon decidedly different from usual.
No presentations, no slides. Just people, teamwork, and the desire to try something new.
We took some of our clients out of their usual environment, onto the ice, to experience something new together: the Webranking Curling Experience. Where - guided by very patient instructors - we learned the rules of this sport and trained through the different phases of the game. To not forget the competitive spirit that characterizes our work as marketers, we concluded with a short but fiercely competitive team tournament.
Much more than a sport
Curling may seem far from our world. In reality, it has much more in common with marketing and work than one might think.
There is a goal to achieve, a strategy to define, roles to decide. The result is a team working together to aim perfectly, "polishing" the path and making the stone reach exactly where it is needed. With a lot of strategy involved.
Just like what happens every day in the projects we build together.
Truly stepping up to the challenge
Guided by instructors, we learned the dynamics of curling and challenged each other in a mini team tournament. We discovered the great responsibility of the Skip and the power of the Hammer: the last shot that can shake everything up. And what Curl means, the twist given to the stone before releasing it that gives the sport its name.
We managed to experience something new and never tried before. We stepped out of our usual roles and shared an authentic moment, made of collaboration, confrontation, lightheartedness … and a few falls.
Because it is often outside the comfort zone that the strongest relationships are born and experiences happen that change the way we see things.
The Right Spirit and the Value of Relationships
Curling has a set of unwritten rules: the Spirit of Curling.
Fairness, respect, fair play. A sport where players “referee themselves” and where it is normal, even at high levels, for players to congratulate an opponent for a well-executed shot.
It is the same approach we seek to bring every day into our collaborations: transparency, trust, openness, and teamwork. It is probably our most important differentiating element: we are not only skilled professionals but add to everything we do a human, collaborative, and empathetic side that is the foundation of the solid relationships we want to build.
Because results matter, but the way we achieve them is equally important.
In the end, it’s not just a matter of projects or performance: we believe that it is the relationships that make it possible to achieve exceptional results and surpass ourselves.
